Lodging at the Yamen
Du Fu
In the autumn chill, by the yamen well, phoenix trees are in sight;
In the riverside town I lodge alone with waning candlelight.
Like appeals to themselves sound the mournful bugle calls all the
night;
By whom is appreciated the moon in the sky that shines so bright?
I have received no news from my brothers while hard times roll away,
And desolate is the frontier pass where there’s hardly a safe way.
For ten years I have wandered about without a home where to stay,
And am now obliged to remove and rest right here as best I may.
