A=Alex(艾力克斯)B=Morgan(摩根)

A:I can see by your resume here that you studied business administration。

B:That’s right。

A:So I wonder why you want to work for a newspaper。

B:I did reporting for the university newspaper at my school。

And I’ve always been very interested in journalism。

A:But journalism-it’s a very different profession from administration。You know a lot about administration。Why don’t you choose to work for a company looking to train managers?

B:I studied administration, yes, but I am more attracted to writing articles。I want to use my knowledge of business to write financial news。

A:A new reporter must expect to work many hours。

B:I know that the profession requires dedication。

A:You should expect to work more than fifty hours a week。And there is a lot of pressure in this job。You have to get stories in by the deadline。You have to be very independent。You have to know how to arrange things by yourself。

B:I know that beginning reporters work many hours。I am very willing to take on the challenge。

A:May I ask how well you know the city?

B:I grew up here。

A:But you went to college in Maine。So you haven’t lived here for almost five years, yes?

B:Yes,that’s true。But I grew up on the north side of town。

And I know this city very well。I have no trouble getting where I need to go。

A:That’s good。Because if you’re hired,we will be sending you everywhere。The job is in the city news department。

B:Yes,I’m aware of that。

A:Judging by the stories you gave us,I’d say your writing is very good。Have you written things other than newspaper stories?

B:I have experience writing newsletters for a health club。

I mentioned that in my resume。

A:You did that while you were in school?

B:Yes。

A:Oh,yes,I see it。Well,I think our interview is complete then。

Are there any questions you would like to ask me?

B:No,not at the moment。

A:Alright, then。We will probably be giving you a call in ten days or so。I have to interview several more people。

B:Thank you,Mr。Jones。

How to Succeed in a Job Interview?

Everyone wants to get a good and highly-paid job, however, that is not so easy, for one thing, there are maybe many other candidates competing for the job,for another, one have to pass through stone tough phases for getting the job, among which interview is an important one。

Interview is the meeting between job applicants and the personnel directors of a company。During the meeting, the company tries to get some information about applicants’educational background, working experience, personal desire and personal qualities。Meanwhile, the company may offer stone information about the company and a certain post。Interview is quite important, from the interview, the personnel director can make judgement whether the applicant is the right person or not。

If one wants to get a job,he must make sure his job interview is a successful one。How can one ensure the success of interview?First, the applicant should show confidence, confidence can convince the interviewer, the interviewee can overcome the passible difficulties in his future work。Secondly, the interviewee should be honest,if the sign of dishonesty was noticed, the interviewee will surely lose the opportunity,as no one wants to employ a person who is not reliable。Thirdly, the applicants should show the interviewer that he is quite knowledgeable and can perform the duty perfectly。

If one can behave as what I suggested, his chance of getting post will be very high。

Teaching the Child

As a crowded airliner is about to take off,the peace is shattered by a 5-year-old boy who picks that moment to throw a wild temper tantrum。No matter what his frustrated, embarrassed mother does to try to calm him down, the boy continues to scream furiously and kick the seats around him。

Suddenly, from the rear of the plane,an elderly man in the uniform of an Air Force General is seen slowly walking forward up the aisle。Stopping the flustered mother with an upraised hand, the white-haired,courtly,soft-spoken General leans down and, motioning toward his chest, whispers something into the boy’s ear。

Instantly, the boy calms down, gently takes his mother’s hand, and quietly fastens his seat belt。All the other passengers burst into spontaneous applause。

As the General slowly makes his way back to his seat, one of the cabin attendants touches his sleeve。Excuse me,General, she asks quietly, but could I ask you what magic words you used on that little boy?

The old man smiles serenely and gently confides,I showed him my pilot’s wings, service stars, and battle ribbons, and explained that they entitle me to throw one passenger out the plane door on any flight I choose。

Tips for First Work

No one wants to look silly or do the wrong thing at a new job。It is important to make the right impression-not the wrong one-from the very first day。You will face new people。You will be in a new place。It may be difficult to know what to do。Here are seven tips to help you make it through the first days at a new job:

1.First impressions can last forever。Make sure you make a good one。Before your first day, find out if your new job has a dress code(rules about what you can wear to work)。If so,be sure to follow it。No matter what, always be neat and clean。

2.Get to work on time。Employers value employees who come to work right on time。Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to make sure you arrive on time。

3.Pay attention to introductions。One of the first things that your supervisor may do is to introduce you to co-workers。These co-workers will be important to you。They are the ones who will answer your questions when the boss is not around。

4.Ask plenty of questions。Make sure that your supervisor has told you what is expected of you。If he or she has not told you your job duties, ask for a list。Set daily and weekly goals for yourself。

5.Do not take too long for lunch。What is the lunch-hour policy at your new job?You can find out from your supervisor or your company’s personnel department。For example,do people eat at their desks or does everyone take a full hour outside the workplace?

6.Do not make personal phone calls。You should never make personal phone calls to your friends and family unless it is an emergency。

7.Never be the first one to leave。Observe how your co-workers behave around quitting time。It does no look good for you to be eager to leave。

A blonde went to a flight school insisting that she wanted to learn to fly。As all the planes were currently inuse, the owner agreed to instruct her by radio on how to pilot the solo helicopter。He took her out, showed her how to start it and gave her the basics, and sent her on her way。

After she climbed 1000 feet, she radioed in。I’m doing great!I love it!The view is so beautiful, and I’m starting to get the hang of this。

After 2000 feet, she radioed again, saying how easy it was to fly。The instructor watched her climb over 3000 feet, and was beginning to worry that she hadn’t radioed in。

A few minutes later,he watched in horror as she crashedabout half a mile away。He ran over and pulled her from the wreckage。

When he asked what happened, she said,I don’t know!Everything was going fine, but as I got higher,I was starting to get cold。I can barely remember anything after I turned off the big fan!

A:Yes,that’s the key issue today。We need to decide on the final design of the advertisement。

B:And before that, you have several reports to go through。

A:Is there a report from Miss Jones from the Public Relations Department?

B:Yes。

A:I’ll go through that one。And put the others in this box。I will check them later。

B:OK。Oh,Mr。Walker is on line

2.A:Get him through。A:Hello。Davis Black。

……

(After the call)

A:What else is on the schedule?

B:In the afternoon,you need to review the××project。

A:Can we have everybody here for the project review?

B:Yes。Everyone from the review board can make it this afternoon。After all, this review is a week behind schedule。

A:Yes。We have a target date to meet。

B:After the review, you have a short meeting with Mr。Harris to discuss the meeting last week。

A:Oh,yes。Have you seen the minutes for that meeting?

B:I’ve put it in your drawer。

A:Oh,I see。

B:And in the evening you have lots of e-mails to do。

A:What a busy day。Give me Miss Jones’s report。

B:Here you are。

A:是的。

A:接通。

A:你好。

A=ManagerB=Assistant

A:Did you put this morning’s faxes on my desk?I’m waiting for some urgent faxes from our partner。I’m pretty sure they came in last night。

B:Everything that came in off the fax machine last night is on your desk。But I noticed that some of the faxes came through pretty blurred。Maybe you can take a look at them。If the copy is unreadable,I’ll give them a call and ask them to refax。

A:Yeah, you have to call them and get them to be re-faxed。All of these copies are so light that I cannot make out any of the words。How can that be?

B:I think the fax machine is out of toner。I’ll change the toner cartridge。

A:Yes,but this one will have to be re-faxed as well。And look, there are about three pages missing! It looks like the fax machine ate half of my important faxes。And the ones that made it through are either too blurred or too light。They’re unreadable!

B:I guess the fax machine is out of paper, too。Don’t worry。I’ll have someone look at it right now。And in the meantime,I’ll have your documents re-faxed to our other fax machine。

A:是的。

How to be a Good Employee?

ONCE you enter the workplace, the word“professionalism”will accompany you everywhere you go。It consists of a bundle of concepts that will become a norm to evaluate your career performance。

In the“professional”field, more matters than your technical expertise and academic accomplishments, you will be remembered and admired for a strict codes of conduct:fairness, honesty and a bond based on legal and ethical rights and duties。

You should understand your“corporate culture”and function within its parameters,as well as treating superiors, peers and subordinates with courtesy。

You will be exhibiting professionalism if your emotions vary by individual sensibilities and of course, cultures。

Professionalism is about being accountable, confident, competent and motivated towards a particular goal……everything you need to excel in your career。

When an unreasonable customer picking on your service or the product,be calm and professional。Don’t take it personally。Be nice and smile even if you are being insulted。But make sure that you always stand your ground。Afterwards, forget about it and get on with your life。More importantly, think about how the problem arose and how you can avoid something similar。

When you know that your colleague, boss or someone else is deliberately making your work difficult。Be confident。If the work or task is too hard, state your opinions。Analyze your points using reason not emotion。Don’t openly oppose them or other people will think you are narrow-minded。After this, try to communicate with them to find out why they did that, maybe a turning point is just around the corner。

When there is an intense debate between you and your boss or co-workers about work or business, don’t feel bad about it。Show your ability to work around any situations。And remember, whatever starts in business ends there。When you get off work, have lunch with your colleagues at the same table and talk about your weekend plans。

The manager of a large office noticed a new man one day and told him to come into his office。What’s your name?he asked the new guy。John, the new guy replied。The manager scowled,Look……I don’t know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked before, but I don’t call anyone by their first name。It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority。I refer to my employees by their last name only……Smith,Jones,Baker……That’s all。I am to be referred to only as Mr。Robertson。Now that we got that straight, what is your last name? The new guy sighed,Darling。My name is John Darling。Okay John, the next thing I want to tell you is……
